Featured Wedding: Christine and Wes

Loulu Palm Estate, North Shore Oahu

Christine and Wes came to us from San Francisco, California, both accountants in their day to day life. Wanting a fairly simple, casual, unpretentious, yet beautiful wedding for up to 50 guests at a private location, they selected the secluded and newly rennovated, Loulu Palm Estate for its expansive lawn and private beach front, perfect for taking pictures with their toes in the sand.

The bride and groom chose to personalize their wedding with Japanese influences, since both of them are hapa (in their case, half Japanese), and Hawaiian influences, in recognition of their wedding locale.

Moving forward with recommendations for catering, Christine and Wes picked the foods they loved and hoped their guests would also enjoy. Must haves: a sushi bar complete with a live sushi chef, soba (buckwheat) noodles in take-out boxes, and mochi ice cream from Bubbies!

The flowers were to be kept simple, yet reflect bright, tropical tones in fuchsia pink, reds and oranges.

Coconut “bowls” were filled with tasty morsels: roasted macadamia nuts (of course!) and assorted Japanese iso peanuts.

In keeping with the Japanese and Hawaiian flavors, the entertainment would be a mix of both cultures with music by Eric Lee for the ceremony and cocktail hour, including two hula dancers to help entertain the guests after the ceremony, and Taiko from world renowned Taiko artist, Kenny Endo (who happens to be the bride's uncle) for the reception. A fire knife dancer also performed once the sun went down and the bonfire was lit for guests to enjoy some s’mores.

Unique Furniture for Weddings

The latest rage in wedding decor features stylish, upgraded chairs and tables, lounge furniture with throw pillows, ottomans, chameleon chairs, and the like. I'm excited to share with you something that just became available in Hawai'i: benches and cube tables by Vignette! The benches, with or without cushions, serve as a fantastic alternative to individual chairs at a wedding site and the matching cube tables would be perfect to top with floral arrangements, or simply for resting a beverage on while relaxing at the wedding. Interested? Contact Naomi or Cari of Vignette at (808) 636-1704.

50th State Fair: a great venue for unique shots

Photos by Stephen Ludwig

It's true, nothing captures a wedding in Hawai'i like photos on the beach, but why not consider a unique location for great pictures and video shots? Last year, one of our favorite couples, Janelle and Alex, took fantastic photos at the carnival. I just have to show off their photos here.

Interested in something similar? Schedule some time with your photographer and videographer to visit the 50th State Fair at the Aloha Stadium. There's still time!

Featured Wedding: Celia and Albert

Photos by Kai Photo

Celia and Albert found us all the way from Japan.

Their vision of their wedding was an elegant turquoise and peach vision that was pulled together with beaut

asablanca Lilies, white Cymbidium Orchids, and roses in the beautiful peach and pink accents.

The ceremony took place at the pristine Central Union Sanctuary Chapel with the reception to follow at the Halekulani Hau Terrace.

Light rain started falling at the beginning of the cocktail hour and soon the guests were “blessed” with a beautiful rainbow to accentuate the backdrop of the photos.

Local lauhala boxes each filled with 3 pineapple and 2 mango cookies served as favors for each of the guests. Each box was wrapped with a turquoise ribbon and topped with a white Dendrobium Orchid.

In keeping with the color scheme, Tuquoise napkins, Coral table linen, and Buttercup Shimmer Sheer overlays were brought in to dress up the guest tables which were positioned to fit around the perimeter of the room so the beautiful bride and handsome groom could be seen by one and all throughout the evening.

To the delight of the guests, especially the young children, added to the menu was a chocolate fountain for dipping fresh fruit and marshmallows.
