Proper Stance for the Groomsmen

A couple of weeks ago, I had written about the proper bouquet hold for the ladies, but perhaps a quick suggestion for the groomsmen might be helpful as well.  To achieve a nice, uniform look during the ceremony, we typically suggest that the groomsmen stand with feet shoulder-width apart and one hand held over the other, either all with left hand over right, or vice versa.  It looks great in photos.  A quick practice of this during the rehearsal makes everything look and feel that much more natural on the wedding day.

Bridesmaids and groomsmen look terrific when standing uniformly, with bouquets at "belly button level" for the ladies and hands left over right for the gentlemen.  Photo by L'amour Photography.

Happy Planning!

Proper Bouquet Hold

Too often, ladies hold their bouquets as one would with a baseball bat, with one hand on top of the other.  Instead, the proper hold would be with fingers interlaced - a much gentler and less athletic look.  Give it a try!

Vegetable Bouquet

I had first heard of bouquets with vegetables in them, years ago, when I initially started planning weddings. Wendy Balidoy of Spinning WEB Florist, mentioned that she had previously made bouquets of vegetables or fruit for some of her prom clients. I knew that bouquets could be made of material other than flowers...I had just never seen one with my own eyes.

Then along come Rachel and Darren, the most fun-loving and self proclaimed "cheesey" couple around. Their wedding will always remain a fond one for me, with so many laugh-out-loud moments on their wedding day. Rachel and Darren put their florist, actually, My Florist (yes, that's their name, "My Florist") to the test by opting for a bouquet with vegetables.

The result was pure perfection - a combination of feminity, mixed with, well, cauliflower! As Rachel and Darren put it, all that was missing was the ranch dressing! And then of course, the good humoured, knee-slapping jokes ensued, "whoever said that brides don't get to eat on their wedding day?" or "it's a bouquet and a snack in one!" Perhaps this will inspire you, too, to consider a veggie bouquet for your special occasion. (Note, dressing not included.)

Wedding Style Tip #2: customizing your bouquet

Walk down the aisle with a distinctive and original bouquet by asking your gown designer or bridal salon
for snippets of fabric from your wedding dress to incorporate into the bouquet handle. A subtle detail such as this makes all the difference between a generic bouquet and one created specifically for you.

Here, Fong Tagawa of Floral Inspirations deftly "lifted" the lace detail from the remnants saved from Jen's gown hem and positioned them artfully onto the handle of her bouquet.
