When planning a destination wedding in Hawai'i, or any event, rather, with many visitors to the islands in attendance, consider incorporating an imu ceremony into part of the festivities.
During the ceremony, a pig cooked in the imu, or earthen oven, is removed and then shredded for eating as scrumptious kalua pork. The ceremony typically takes several minutes, and the per minute "wow factor" cannot be beat!
One of the couples whose wedding we helped to plan treated their guests, many of whom flew in from out-of-town, to this imu ceremony at their rehearsal dinner at the Hale Koa Hotel's Lu'au Garden, and guests loved it!(Note: be sure to obtain approval from your wedding or event venue first before proceeding with plans for an imu ceremony.)
